Non-rotating & low-rotating wire rope
When loads hang freely from a crane or is moved across large lifting heights, the use of rotation-resistant or low-rotation wire ropes prevents the load from dangerously spinning. A special design makes this possible: oppositely laid strands and wires generate opposing forces that almost cancel each other out under tension. This makes the rope very stable. Additionally, the construction ensures that ropes running alongside each other don’t tangle. Whether supplied as stock length or custom-fabricated with thimbles, eyes, and swaged fittings: we deliver custom rope solutions for cranes, winches, and modern lifting equipment. The ropes are also available coated on request.
What is the difference between rotation-resistant and low-rotation wire ropes?
From a physical standpoint, there is in practice no completely “rotation-resistant” wire rope, since minimal residual forces are always present under extreme conditions. In practice, and according to relevant standards (such as DIN EN 12385), the properties are therefore distinguished as follows:
- Low rotation: Significantly reduces twisting, though at very large lifting heights it may show minimal residual torque (e.g. the construction 18×7).
- Rotation free / Rotation resistant: Offers almost no residual torque and is very stable with an unguided load and very large lifting heights (e.g. the construction 35×7).
Rotation-resistant/low-rotation ropes: the constructions from Hamburger Drahtseilerei
18×7+FC
Highly flexible and low-noise. High flexibility thanks to 18 strands with 7 fine wires each and a fiber core. Smooth, even running over sheaves and on drums.
> Request product18×7+WSC
Shape-stable and heat-resistant thanks to 18 strands with 7 wires each and a steel core. Perfectly designed for high tensile loads and crush-free multi-layer spooling on winches.
> Request product35×7
Rotation-resistant and smooth-running. The construction (35 strands of 7 wires each) is especially well suited for safely and precisely moving heavy, freely suspended loads, e.g. on cranes.
> Request product35xK7
Extremely robust thanks to a compacted 35×7 construction. Excels under the highest load capacities and offers maximum abrasion resistance for demanding use with cranes.

The inner and outer strand layers are laid in opposite directions (opposing lay). Under tension, the outer strands want to untwist in one direction, while the inner strands counteract in the other direction. This physical counterbalance cancels out the torques in the rope almost completely and creates a stable structure in the rope, which tends to twist only minimally even under heavy loads.

Use of rotation-resistant wire ropes
Low-rotation and rotation-resistant wire ropes are used wherever no torsional forces may act on the load being lifted. They are the perfect choice for rigging, crane, and hoist applications to safely move freely suspended, unguided loads – especially at large lifting heights, indoors and outdoors.
Since the rope barely rotates under load, it reliably prevents dangerous twisting of the load as well as the tangling of rope strands in multi-strand pulley systems or overhead slings.
18×7+FC – low-rotation wire rope with fiber core
Applications: The highly flexible and low-rotation 18×7+FC wire rope is used above all as a dynamic hoisting, pulling, and guide rope in lifting technology, conveying technology, construction, as well as in stage, forestry, and offshore rigging applications, where it sees use.
Advantages: 18×7+FC ropes stand out for their high flexibility as well as a quiet, gentle running behavior thanks to a lubricant-retaining fiber core.

18×7+WSC – low-rotation wire rope with steel core
Applications: The rope is perfect for the highest tensile loads in heavy-duty lifting technology, on winches with multi-layer spooling, in mining and civil engineering, as well as for demanding industrial and offshore applications.
Advantages: Thanks to its steel core, this construction is highly resistant to lateral pressure, which is an advantage under heavy loads and demanding winding operations.
35×7 – rotation-resistant wire rope with exceptional smooth running
Applications: The 35×7 is used above all for safely moving freely suspended loads in lifting technology, construction, and industry, as well as in rugged winch applications in agriculture and forestry, where it is used.
Advantages: The rope has very low rotation and offers smooth running with freely suspended loads. It combines high stability with good flexibility.

35xK7 – compacted wire rope for extreme stability & durability
Applications: 35xK7 ropes are used wherever the highest rotation resistance is required, e.g. on tower and offshore cranes, in heavy-duty construction, maritime port technology, as well as in demanding winch and multi-layer applications.
Advantages: The near rotation-resistant construction offers, thanks to its compacted strands, enormous tensile strength, high abrasion protection, and the best crush resistance for the heaviest loads.
Eyelets, thimbles, & more – rotation-resistant wire ropes with end fittings
A rotation-resistant wire rope only reaches its full potential with the right end fittings and rigging hardware. That is why we supply you not only with stock lengths, but also swage and fabricate your ropes ready to use, made to measure. Whether you need thimbles, loops, fork crimps, or eye crimps, we ensure that the end connections are perfectly matched to your winches, hooks, chain assemblies and crane systems.
