3×19 – Specialized wire rope for oceanographic applications
As a company based in northern Germany, close to the sea, we understand what matters most when it comes to wire ropes used in saltwater or maritime environments. They must be extremely strong, corrosion-resistant, and low-twist. They must also withstand low temperatures. With our proven 3×19 construction, we offer a high-quality solution for demanding oceanographic environments. Thanks to its three-strand design, the rope retains its shape even under heavy loads, preventing dangerous twisting of buoys or research equipment. Furthermore, our ropes are also ideally suited for use on oil platforms.
Designation: 3×19 refers to a wire rope consisting of 3 strands, each of which consists of 19 wires.

Properties: The 3×19 construction is particularly kink-resistant and durable against external influences. It was specifically designed for use in marine environments and offers outstanding resistance to corrosion and mechanical stress.
Application: This design is ideal for underwater mooring systems as well as for applications that require additional data transmission, such as buoys or monitoring systems.
Material: Made of high-strength galvanized steel and combined with a durable plastic coating (e.g., polypropylene or polyurethane), the rope offers optimal protection against saltwater, abrasion, and external influences.
Versions at Hamburger Drahtseilerei: We supply 35×7 galvanized wire rope in various diameters, with optional custom end fittings and coating.

A rope for the sea – Versatile applications of 3×19
- Oceanography: Anchoring research buoys and underwater measurement systems
- Maritime safety: Securing surveillance and tracking systems
- Deep-sea exploration: Stabilizing equipment during offshore and underwater operations
- Data transmission: Connection between the seafloor and surface buoys
- Offshore applications: Use in oil platforms and maritime infrastructure
Robust protection with special coating
If needed, we can provide your wire rope with a plastic coating. This not only protects the steel from rust caused by aggressive saltwater, but also shields it from scratches, abrasion, and even fish bites. At the same time, the sheath acts as an important insulator, enabling the rope to be used as a secure data cable for underwater measuring devices. Combined with our eco-friendly lubricants, it is therefore ideally suited for use in sensitive marine areas.

Ready-to-use end fittings for your project
To ensure you can put your 3×19 wire rope into service immediately, we can supply it with the appropriate end fittings upon request. We equip the cable exactly according to your specifications—whether with sturdy thimbles, crimped ends, or special connectors for data transmission (such as the Hammerhead connector). With customized end fittings, measurement data can be reliably recorded in real time and transmitted between underwater devices and the surface.
