Flexible 6×7 wire rope with fibre reinforcement

Unlike ropes with a solid steel core, the 6×7+FC construction – which features a fibre insert woven into the centre of the rope – offers significantly greater elasticity and flexibility. It is also relatively light, which makes it much easier to handle and install on site. Choose this construction for all tasks where ease of bending is important and no heavy loads need to be carried.

Designation: The designation 6×7+FC (Fibre Core) refers to a wire rope comprising 6 outer strands, each consisting of 7 individual wires. The centre of the rope is formed by a polypropylene fibre core.

Properties: Thanks to its soft fibre core, the rope can be laid more flexibly and bent more tightly than a rope made entirely of steel. It is also lighter, which reduces transport and material costs. The relatively thick outer wires nevertheless provide solid protection against mechanical abrasion.

Applications: Typical areas of use include lightweight barrier and guidance systems, guide ropes in conveyor and handling technology, temporary suspensions in exhibition stand construction, and cost-effective sealing and securing ropes in transport logistics.

Material: We offer the steel rope in a standard galvanised finish for standard corrosion protection.

Versions at Hamburger Drahtseilerei: We supply the rope in various diameters and lengths, with a robust coating and customised end fittings on request.

Applications of 6×7+FC

  • Transport securing & logistics: Cost-effective lashing, bundling and sealing ropes for tarpaulins, freight and containers.
  • Exhibition stand construction & advertising technology: Flexible, easy-to-use suspension systems for signs or lightweight decorative elements.
  • Industrial & traffic engineering: Guide and boundary cables for manual barrier systems or car park barriers.
  • Agriculture & horticulture: Sturdy and durable guide and trellis wires for greenhouses.

Flexibility thanks to the fibre insert

The elastic fibre insert inside the rope ensures a high degree of flexibility that cannot be achieved with a rigid steel core. In the 6×7+FC construction, we generally use a robust polypropylene core, which gives the rope its flexibility whilst being completely resistant to weathering and rot. Thanks to the fibre insert, the wire rope can be laid effortlessly, guided flexibly around bends and makes manual tensioning during installation considerably easier. When a steel core is the right choice instead of a fibre insert

If your project involves consistently high tensile forces, you should opt for the 7×7 construction. The technical designation for this is often 6×7+WSC (Wire Strand Core; steel-core version).

The steel core prevents the rope from stretching under constant load and ensures a higher minimum breaking strength. For rigid guy wires on masts, fences or static safety systems in the construction industry, where absolute dimensional stability is required, the steel core is the right choice.

FAQs – 6×7+FC wire ropes

Thanks to its textile core, the rope is noticeably softer, more elastic and more flexible than a steel-core version. It is much easier to unwind from the reel, tension by hand and loop around corners or edges without springing back in an extremely bulky manner.

Yes, for particularly demanding applications, we offer, for example, the 18×7+FC wire rope. Whilst our 6×7+FC wire rope, with its few, thicker wires, is designed for simple barriers and guides, the 18 strands of the 18×7+FC construction make the wire rope highly flexible and resistant to twisting. This makes the steel wire rope perfectly suited, for example, to demanding applications in the construction industry, in industrial settings or for offshore operations.
